IN A NUTSHELL, OUR AIM IS TO TURN EMPTY SPACE INTO POSITIVE COMMUNITY SPACE
Managing and curating these spaces; creating community events such as markets, workshops and festivals which include:
Music, Dance, Djing, Spoken word, MCing
Healthy eating workshops
Sport and fitness
Art and creativity
Health and well-being
Supporting disadvantaged individuals and groups being by including them in local events and activities that would otherwise be inaccessible.
Providing training and confidence building activities to enable this community to take part in local activities.
The community will benefit by taking part in these events within a safe environment so that individuals become more engaged, confident, trustful, tolerant and expressive.
Space Embrace Community Interest Company have developed a series of dynamic and creative workshops to support people to improve health and well-being. We have delivered these in schools, as after school clubs and in the community.
We have worked with Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy, Hackney New School, Orchard Primary School and charity Hackney Quest. Feedback from our workshops are they have successfully brought people together and build stronger relationships in and across communities. We have strengthened relationships while teaching how to make positive changes.
We are a not for profit social enterprise so if the company makes any surplus it will be used for the benefit of the local communities in which we work or reinvested back into the social enterprise.
We are united by a love and sense of purpose to improve our community and driven by a desire to utilise our skills to help improve the lives of our young people and strive to use our professional skills to support them through our community interest company.The skills of our governing body ensure the strength and ability of Space Embrace Community Interest Company.
Kim Long is a city journalist with a keen eye for detail and scrutiny and brings her expertise to strengthen the organisation. Previously worked teaching English in Japan as part of the JET Programme, she studied at University of Liverpool,English Language and Literature BA University of Sheffield, Print Journalism MA Euromoney and is now Transaction Services Editor. She currently volunteers as Homework club assistant at local charity Hackney Quest and breakfast volunteer at Hackney Winter Night Shelter.
Natalia Ford's major achievements include being selected for Future Leaders programme 2017 (a sustainability initiative within the built environment sector) Education Masters level, MSc Environmental Management, University of Surrey. Natalia is a Sustainability Advisor, UK Green Building Council, and brings her organisational, thoughtful , encouraging us to see the bigger picture. This helps our organisations work within communities and the wider world to benefit our approach and practice.
Luca Bertali was a broker in the City for 17 years and now owns and manages a yoga and pilates business 'The Refinery'. He is passionate about community health issues. He brings his extensive knowledge of managing budgets, questioning, and challenging our team to take different approaches to help us organise our company for the greater good.
Kay Richardson is a member of Sadiq Khan’s ‘London Markets Board’. Kay is a director of #Artskickers awards which shines a light on artistic talent from East London and is director of Space Embrace. Kay has worked in editorial on national newspapers for nearly 2 decades. She brings her extensive knowledge from crowdfunding ‘Well Street Market’ , project management and delivery of community focused projects, ensuring we meet deadlines, deliver dynamic projects on budget and think and work in innovative and creative ways that have community impact.
